Walk into Kelly’s Butchers and you immediately know you’re somewhere different. Two twinkle-eyed brothers in smart straw boaters and striped aprons stand behind the counter, cheerfully chatting with customers and suggesting recipes. A bewildering display of meats, delicious readymade meals and of course puddings and sausages compete for attention. Ever tried a banana sausage? How about a spicy chilli version, a lamb sausage or one subtly flavoured with herbs? Maybe the classic favourite breakfast sausage is the one for you.
This is what a real butchers shop should be, a combination of the best traditional methods and artisan skills given a contemporary twist. We are butchers with a genuine interest and love for our craft and our products and we maintain a deep connection with our hometown and county
Kelly’s black and white puddings are now increasingly available around the country and they’re attracting a lot of attention at all times of the day. As Seán Kelly explains, “The pudding isn’t just a breakfast dish any more. Chefs are using black pudding in particular as a starter with gooseberry relish for example or as a main course partnered with free range chicken and Parma ham.”
At Kelly’s our motto is “We manufacture up to a standard, not down to a price”.
We're becoming pretty well known in the Irish foodie community, we are listed in the Bridgestone Guide, are members of the Good Food Ireland marketing group and are regularly mentioned in articles and publications.
It takes very special products to win gold medals and awards consistently year after year and we're proud of what our Kelly's products have achieved. Kelly’s black and white puddings and sausages have raked in the honours at national and international competitions since the early 1990’s including Great Taste Awards, Blas na hEireann, Food & Wine Magazine Awards, butchers awards and the Boudin Noir competition in Mortagne-au-Perche France. We have also won several Business Awards.
Seán Kelly was the first Irishman knighted by the Brotherhood of the Black Pudding, a Normandy based organisation who performed the honour in Áras an Chontae, Castlebar .
