Today Kelly’s Butchers still provide the same personal service to all their customers through their family shop in Newport. The same traditional products are available, all manufactured onsite, and the same high standards are maintained. Kelly's still maintain their own abattoir, source from local farmers and are totally committed to Newport and Mayo.
All that's changed is that today, Kelly's Butchers offer a little bit more.
Kelly's Puddings are now available all over the country, and in selected UK outlets. Some products can also be ordered online and the list is being added to all the time. A new, bigger manufacturing unit is under construction and will be opened in Spring 2015. This means we can make even more prizewinning puddings and sausages - and more importantly we'll be able to supply everyone who is asking us.
Keep an eye out for our new range of specialty sausages which will soon be on sale all over the country.
At Kelly's we like to have fun with our food and we enjoy doing things a little bit differently. Here are some quirky examples:
The Pudding Pint
Winning prizes sometimes takes a bit of ingenuity. Kelly’s made a pudding in the shape of a pint of stout and entered it in an international pudding competition in France. They won a gold medal. This was from The Confrérie des Chevaliers du Goute-Boudin (The Black Pudding Fraternity of Lovers of Good Food in Mortagne-au-Perche, Normandy.
The Christmas Pudding Cracker
Kelly’s put a new twist on the traditional Christmas cracker by using Kelly’s black and white pudding as the core. The slogan on the pack is “Have a black and white Christmas with Kelly’s of Newport”.
The black pudding is housed in a black cracker decorated with gold and the white pudding is in a gold cracker decorated with black. Each Christmas Pudding Cracker contains a standard chubb pudding.
The Proof is in the Pudding - charity recipe book
Kelly's have produced a pudding recipe book which is on sale in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. "The Proof is in the Pudding" is a beautiful volume of recipes from some of Ireland's top chefs, showcasing the different ways in which Kelly's Pudding can be prepared. Lots of instantly recognisable names appear including Neven Maguire, Seamus Commons, Tom O'Connell and Paul Flynn. The cost of "The Proof is in the Pudding" is €10 all of which goes to the charity. Books are available from Kelly's shop or can be ordered online.
All Ireland Putóg Throwing Competition
Kelly's Putóg is the traditional form of the black pudding, originally made in every farmhouse countrywide. Kelly's are proud organisers and sponsors of the All Ireland Putóg Throwing Competition which is the highlight of the Newport Festival every August. Shot putting rules apply and the longest lofter takes home a cash prize and the coveted title of course.
Green and red - for Mayo
Kelly's are proud Mayo butchers and like to do their bit to support the Mayo Senior Football Team when there's a big match in the offing. These green and red sausages certainly got a bit of attention!
